Voters have until March 9 to request a mail ballot. Feb. 16 is the deadline to register or change party affiliation.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – The Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections sent more than 1,500 presidential preference primary ballots to overseas and absent military voters Friday (Jan. 29).

The office is preparing to send out more than 92,000 ballots to domestic voters on Feb. 12.

“I encourage voters to consider vote by mail,” Craig Latimer, Hillsborough supervisor of elections. said. “It’s the most convenient way to vote.”

Florida has closed primaries, so during the March 15 presidential preference primary, voters registered as Democrats will vote for a Democratic nominee for president, and those registered as Republicans will vote for a Republican nominee for president. According to state law, those registered with any other party and those who are not affiliated with a party are not eligible to vote
in the presidential preference primary election.

The deadline to register to vote or change party affiliation for this election is Feb. 16. Voters have until March 9 to request that a ballot be mailed to them. Voters can request vote by mail by visiting votehillsborough.org or calling (813) 744-5900. Voters can also visit any of the four Hillsborough County supervisor of elections offices and have a mail ballot printed for them.

Early voting is Feb. 29 – March 13, and election day is March 15.
