HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A St. Petersburg woman has been accused of driving under the influence after a Hillsborough sheriff’s deputy said he caught her driving the wrong way early this morning (March 24).

Christy Walters, 42, of 3103 37th St. N, St. Petersburg, was charged with DUI.

A Hillsborough deputy said he was driving east on Waters Avenue when he saw a 2015 Volkswagen Passat driving towards him. The deputy avoided a collision with the Volkswagen, then made a U-turn and stopped the Passat.

The deputy said Walters was driving and seemed to be impaired: She was unsteady on her feet; her eyes were bloodshot and glassy; her speech was slurred: and her breath smelled of alcohol. Two breathalyzer samples indicated a blood alcohol content was 0.221 and 0.224. A blood alcohol level of 0.08 is considered to be legally drunk.

Walters was taken to the Orient Road Jail.
