Hear 40 Years of Jazz in Downtown St. Pete

Two local musicians will perform at The Studio at 620 this Thursday.

ST. PETERSBURG — Jazz artists David Pate (saxophone) and Michael Ross (bass) will present a concert of duos, solos and improvisations 7 p.m. Thursday (Aug. 20) at Studio@620, 620 First Ave. S. The performance will celebrate the duo’s 40th anniversary of making music together.

General admission is $20, $15 for seniors and students .A limited number of red Studio@620 member tickets will be accepted for this event.  RSVP at  (727) 895-6620.

The concert will consist of interpretations of jazz standards (Monk, Mingus, Ornette) , original compositions, solo and duo improvisations and maybe some spontaneous jaunts into some uncharted territories.

Having first played together at a jam session in 1975, Ross and Pate have since been involved in many performances together, including jazz festivals, recordings, numerous jazz educational workshops, and basketball games. They formed the nucleus of jazz groups Liquid Bebop, The Michael Ross Quartet and The Downtown Trio.
