One of the tires blew out on the tractor-trailer he was driving, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A Federal Express driver died this morning (May 22) when he lost control of the tractor-trailer he was driving after a tire blew out, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Lazaro Villarreal-Santana, 22, of Tampa, died at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt.

Jordan Stynda, 19, and Nicole Stynda, 17, both of Crystal Beach, the driver and passenger of the other car in the crash, suffered minor injuries. They were not taken to a hospital.

Troopers said the crash happened about 10:21 a.m. on eastbound I-4 just east of U.S. 301 in Hillsborough County. Mr. Villarreal-Santana was driving a 2004 FedEx tractor-trailer in the outside lane when the left front tire of the tractor-trailer blew out.

He lost control of the semi and traveled towards the center median and collided with a 2012 Chevrolet Volt driven by Jordan Stynda. The tractor-trailer continued into the center median where it hit a guardrail and overturned.
