Drunk Driver Backs into Gas Pump that Bursts into Flames, Deputies Say

The man’s blood alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit, according to Hillsborough sheriff’s deputies.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – Deputies arrested an Arizona man and accused him of backing into a gas pump at a Wawa early today (March 22).

Chad Michael Weber, 37, of 3835 E. Keresan St. in Phoenix, AZ, was charged with driving under the influence with property damage. Hillsborough sheriff’s deputies said two tests showed Weber had a blood alcohol level of 0.18 percent and 0.174 percent. People with blood alcohol levels of 0.08 percent are considered legally drunk.

Deputies said Weber was driving a rented 2016 Ford Mustang about 2:19 this morning (March 22) when he backed into a gas pump at the Wawa station at 804 Bearss Ave. The gas pump became fully engulfed in flames. The fire was put out by Hillsborough County Fire Rescue.

The accident caused about $10,000 worth of damage to the Wawa gas pump and about $3,000 worth of damage to the rental Mustang.

Weber was taken to the Orient Road Jail.
