The new store in the Skyway Marina District will be among the grocery chain’s largest.

ST. PETERSBURG — The new Publix supermarket under construction at 5295 34th Street S is expected to open late this year and at 55,000 square feet will be among the chain’s largest stores, officials say.

The new store replaces an older one on the same site. It will include a pharmacy and the usual lavish Publix amenities. And the parking lot, lighting, and landscaping all be overhauled.  The shopping center in which the store is located, Bay Pointe Plaza, will remain open during construction, as will the nearby Maximo Marina.
