Clearwater Plans National Night Out

The Clearwater Police Department’s mounted and K-9 units will be on hand and free bicycle helmets will be handed out to kids.

CLEARWATER – The Clearwater Police Department will join a number of community businesses Tuesday (Oct. 6) for National Night Out at Clearwater Mall.The event is scheduled from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the parking lot of Target, which is one of the event’s many sponsors. Lowe’s and Costco also are involved.

National Night Out is an annual event that occurs in cities across the nation and is billed as “America’s night out against crime.” It affords residents a close-up look at police officers and the many tools they use to do their jobs on a daily basis.

The mounted unit and K-9s will be there. So will traffic enforcement cars and the SWAT team. The emergency response team, hostage negotiators and forensics experts also will be present. A landing from Bayflite also is planned, and Clearwater Fire & Rescue also will be on hand. AmeriCorps will be handing out free bicycle helmets to youngsters. There will be plenty of free food and drink on hand as well. Nearly two dozen local restaurants will be participating.
