The City of St. Pete and the civic club will hold a check presentation ceremony on Wednesday (June 8).

ST. PETERSBURG — Kiwanis Club members will share a picnic celebration at Kiwanis Park with St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman and City Council Vice Chair Darden Rice, along with the City Parks Department and neighborhood families on Wednesday (June 8) at 6:30 p.m. Kiwanis Park is at 38th Avenue N between 18th and 19th Streets.

The program will start with Florida District of Kiwanis / Division 13 presenting two checks totaling $20,000 to the City of St. Petersburg. The Kiwanis donation will be used for the safety surfacing and fencing portion of the playground, making the playground area both attractive and safe for children. This project is part of Kiwanis International’s goal of “improving the world, one child and one community at a time.”

Thirty-five years ago, local Kiwanis clubs offered to fund and build a park for children in St. Petersburg. Upon completion, the park was named “Kiwanis Park.” Once again, the local Kiwanis Clubs, through a partnership with the City of St. Petersburg, will help upgrade this park for neighborhood families and children.

The Florida District of Kiwanis / Division 13 includes six local Kiwanis clubs involved in the community working directly with children and raising funds to be used to improve the lives of children. Kiwanis efforts for schools include Service Leadership Programs, reading and books for children in elementary classrooms, college scholarships and student recognition events. Community support programs include Family Fun Fishing Day Events, Ft. DeSoto Sea Oats Planting, Pinellas Trail Cleanup and “Field of Honor” – when flags are placed honoring past and present veterans. Kiwanis conducts numerous fundraising activities and also assists other community programs such as Clothes To Kids; Special Olympics; Ronald McDonald House Meals; Relay For Life; Habitat For Humanity; Salvation Army Bell Ringing; No Child Goes Hungry and many others.
