The 22nd Street S event is free and open to the public.

ST. PETERSBURG — The Deuces — the popular nickname for 22d Street S — is holding its First Annual Chili Cook-off  from 3 p..m. to 11 p.m. Sunday (Dec. 11) at Deuces BBQ, 911 22nd St. S.

“If you have been to our events or cook-offs (remember how much fun the mac and cheese contest was?!), then you know this one will be awesome too,” organizers say on the event’s Facebook page.

The event is open to the public, as far as food goes. But the chili chefs have to register by sending an email to info@deucesbbq.com or stop into Deuces BBQ, Gallerie 909, Chief’s Creole Cafe or Annie’s Beauty Supply and reserve a spot. Twenty entries are being offered, so when that number is reached, chef registration is closed.

Anyone can enter and there is no entry fee. It’s for fun and bragging rights, in addition to some prizes. More information on that to come.

There also will be live music, games, fun with art for the kids and more. Parking is free and other food and beer specials will be available.

“This is a family-friendly event brought to you by the merchants on the Deuces, so get on down,” organizers say.
