Child, 4, Dies after New Port Richey Traffic Crash

The 4 year old died Sunday (May 1) of injuries received in an April 24 crash.

NEW PORT RICHEY – A 4-year-old child who was airlifted to the hospital after an April 24 traffic crash died Sunday (May 1), according to New Port Richey police.

Police said the crash happened about 9:45 p.m. A 2004 Ford F-150 truck driven by Kevin Brock of New Port Richey was headed north on U.S. 19 approaching Marine Parkway. A 2011 Hyundai Elantra driven by Ciera Browne of Brooksville was stopped for the red light. As the light turned green, the truck rear-ended the Elantra.

The two children, aged 4 and 10, in the back seat were airlifted to St. Joseph’s Hospital with severe injuries, police said. A third child, aged 5, and an adult passenger in the Elantra were taken by ambulance to St. Joseph’s. Browne, the driver of the Elantra, was taken to St. Joseph’s by a family member. Brock was uninjured, police said.

Brock was cited for careless driving. Alcohol and/or drugs are not suspected as being a factor, police said. The investigation is continuing.
