PINELLAS COUNTY – From swimming and music to parades and fireworks, there’s a lot to do in Pinellas this holiday weekend. We’ve collected a few happenings and listed them here. They’re all free as far as we know unless otherwise noted. Have a happy and safe Fourth!

KENNETH CITY

Start celebrating today (July 2) with the annual Kenneth City Independence Day Parade and Festival. Follow the parade to James Ernst Park, 4900 58th St. N, for festival fun.

Details: The parade starts at 10 a.m. and festivities run until 2 p.m. The parade starts at 54th Avenue and 62nd Street N.

MADEIRA BEACH

The Madeira Beach Fourth of July fireworks show will take place Sunday (July 3). This was decided since the following Monday is a national holiday and this schedule of events gives people more time to celebrate the festivities instead of having work early the next morning.

CLEARWATER

July 4 | Clearwater | HappeningsClearwater will celebrate America’s 240th birthday by hosting the largest fireworks show in the Tampa Bay area at Coachman Park. The community is invited to attend this free event and enjoy items and food from local vendors, as well as family-friendly games and activities. Live music by Nashville recording artist and Dunedin’s own Aubrey Wollett, Clearwater’s own the Ries Brothers and a performance by the Coachman Park Pops Orchestra featuring the Wilsons will also entertain guests throughout the evening. The night’s biggest attraction will be the Clearwater Gas “Spark the Sky” fireworks display.

LARGO

Come see one of the best firework shows in Pinellas County at Largo’s 4th of July Celebration in Largo Central Park. Beginning at 6 p.m. Monday, family and friends can enjoy great food, entertainment and activities for all ages, followed by a spectacular fireworks show starting at approximately 9:15pm. Enjoy a pie eating contest, t-shirt decorating for $5 and inflatable activities with a $10 wristband. Admission to the event is free, activity wristbands will be available for purchase on-site (cash only). For the safety of everyone, no alcohol, coolers, pets, personal fireworks or sparklers are permitted in the park.

Details: 6 p.m.-9:30 p.m., Monday, Largo Central Park, 101 Central Park Drive; wristbands, $10; on-site parking, $10; free park and walk will also be available from Largo Middle School and Everest University.

GULFPORT

The city of Gulfport invites everyone to celebrate this 4th of July all day long with an amazing line-up of fun and exciting activities in the city’s downtown waterfront district. The activities include a fishing derby, sand sculpture contest, food, vendors, a parade and, of course, fireworks.

Details:

  • Marina’s fishing derby, recreation field (seawall), 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.
  • Sand sculpture contest, Gulfport Beach, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
  • Kidzone, behind the Recreation Center, noon to 6 p.m.
  • Live musical entertainment, outdoor casino event stage, 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Food, fun and vendors, downtown Waterfront District, 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Parade, Beach Boulevard, 6 P.M.
  • Mayor and council welcome, outdoor casino event stage 7 p.m.
  • Fireworks, 9:15 p.m.

Street closures are on the following streets starting at 5:30 a.m. Monday, July 4.  Beach Boulevard will be closed from 31st Avenue S to Shore Boulevard. Shore Boulevard will be closed from 54th Street South to 56th Street South. The east-side of 54th Street South will also be closed north of Essex Avenue. Beach Boulevard south of 28th Avenue South to 31st Avenue South will be temporarily closed for the city’s 4th of July Community Parade from 5:45 p.m. until 7 p.m.

Other early closings to prepare for the fireworks include the Williams Pier (corner of Shore Boulevard and 54th Street S) which will close 24 hours in advance on Sunday (July 3) morning. Perimeter buoys will clearly designate a fireworks safety zone from the Williams Pier extending into Boca Ciega Bay approximately 1,000 feet. The Casino docks will be closed at 5 p.m. Sunday and remain closed until after the fireworks show. Limited beach access will be granted for non-motorized dinghies the day of the event.  Interested boaters can dock at the Gulfport Municipal Marina the day of the event for a $1.50 per foot plus tax fee. Reservations for the Gulfport Municipal Marina are accepted at  the digital free online reservation platform called dockwa.

July 4 | Sparklers | FireworksAny unauthorized boats parked at the casino dock will be towed to a safe location. Additionally, fencing will be placed on the seawall at Veteran’s Park (corner of Shore Boulevard and 54th Sreet S) extending to the Gulfport Casino. Other safety issues include “sparklers only” on Gulfport Beach.

The open air event trolley will be running from noon until 5:30 p.m. and from 6:30 p.m. until 11 p.m. to pick up passengers from remote parking spotst. Look for the red signs marking remote parking spots: Recreation Center, 5730 Shore Blvd. S; library, 5501 28th Ave. S; Senior Center and Theater, 5501 27th Ave. S; Hoyt Field, 2306 56th St. S; Chase Park,  54th Sreet S and 28th Avenue S; Ted Phillips Wood Ibis Park, 58th Street S and 28thAvenue. When you see the trolley, just wave and the driver will pick you up.

SAFETY HARBOR

Parade

The American Legion Auxiliary will host a patriotic parade down Main Street on the morning of July 4. Wear your red, white and blue and be ready for a good time.

Fourth of July celebration presented by Blake Real Estate

Bring the whole family out for a July 4 celebration Safety Harbor style. There will be children’s activities, live entertainment from Mercy McCoy Band and local favorites Stimulus, food vendors and plenty of fun for the whole family. Get a good seat in the marina or the waterfront park because the best fireworks display in Tampa Bay goes off at exactly 9 p.m.

ST. PETERSBURG

Independence Day Celebration at Great Explorations

Great Explorations | Children | St PetersburgPatriotic activities are scheduled throughout the day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Challenge your friends in the red, white and blue relay at 10:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., and 3:30 p.m. Guests will also explore underwater “fireworks,” create red, white and blue visors, design stars and stripes flag mosaics and celebrate with an independence day dance party. Great Explorations Children’s Museum will be honoring the Fourth of July by offering free admission to all members of the military (active and retired) and first responders. Please bring proper ID to receive discounts and join us for patriotic crafts and activities all day! All activities are included in the admission
Details: 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Great Explorations Children’s Museum, 1925 Fourth St. N. Admission is free for children younger than 1; $10 for ages 1-54; $9 for ages 55-plus. Ask about discounts for military, teachers, first responders, AAA, electronic benefits transfer (EBT), and the museum reciprocity program.
HONNA Fourth of July Children’s Parade
Break out your red, white and blue and get a head-start on the holiday with a parade. The annual HONNA 4th of July Children’s Parade will begin at 10 a.m. Monday (July 4) at Coffee Pot Park. HONNA stands for the Historic Old Northeast Neighborhood Association.
Details:  10 a.m. Coffee Pot Park, 1st Street NE and 30th Avenue. Parking is available along 28th, 29th, 30th and 31st Avenues but no parking in the park lot.
Fourth of July Dollar Splash Day
Celebrate your Fourth of July with a splash. For only $1 per person, you can bring your family and friends to kick off the fun  from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at North Shore Pool. Come cool off!

Fourth of July Fireworks
The city of St. Petersburg celebrates Independence Day with its annual fireworks display.
Details: Fireworks start as early as 8:30 p.m. or as late as 10 p.m. depending on weather conditions. The fireworks display is visible all along the St. Petersburg waterfront with prime viewing from the Vinoy, Albert Whitted, North Straub, Spa Beach and South Straub parks, which are all on Bayshore Drive.
