Bicyclist Seriously Injured in Pasco Hit and Run Crash

The Florida Highway Patrol is searching for the driver.

PASCO COUNTY – A bicyclist was seriously injured Tuesday (March 7) when he was sideswiped by a driver who failed to stop, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Keith Dawson, 50, of New Port Richey, was taken to Bayonet Point Hospital with serious injuries. He was not wearing a helmet, troopers said.

The crash happened about 7:12 p.m. at the intersection of Fivay and Library roads. Troopers said Dawson was riding west on the north shoulder of Fivay. As an unknown vehicle passed him, it sideswiped Dawson, propelling him into a wooden bench on the north shoulder of Fivay. The driver of the vehicle did not stop, but continued on.

Troopers said the unknown vehicle was described as a light colored passenger car with damage to the front right and/or passenger side. Anyone with information is asked to contact the FHP or Crime Stoppers of Tampa Bay, which is offering a reward of up to $3,000 for information that leads to the identification and arrest of the unknown suspect involved in this case.

Crime Stoppers must be contacted first in order to be eligible for a cash reward.
