Bicyclist Dies after Pasco Crash

The bicyclist was facing a steady red pedestrian control signal, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

PASCO COUNTY – A bicyclist died at a hospital Wednesday (Jan. 4) night where he was taken after he was hit by a car, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Michael Beardi, 74, of New Port Richey, died at Morton Plant North Bay Hospital where he was taken after the crash. He was not wearing a helmet, troopers said.

The crash happened about 5:35 p.m. at the intersection of DeCubellis and Ridge roads. Mr. Beardi was on the southeast corner of the intersection at a pedestrian crosswalk facing a steady red pedestrian control signal, troopers said. He tried to cross DeCubellis in front of an oncoming 2010 Hyundai Sonata driven by Jerome Barraia, 82, of New Port Richey. The Hyundai hit Mr. Beardi.
