The tree giveaway is for Belleair residents.

BELLEAIR – Before becoming a residential destination, Pinellas County and the town of Belleair consisted almost entirely of citrus groves, where the trees thrived in the warm and fertile climate.

To keep that history alive, and to commemorate the town’s 25th Tree City anniversary, the Belleair Parks and Recreation Department will host a Citrus Tree Giveaway on from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday (March 5) at the Public Works Building, 1075 Ponce de Leon Blvd., parking lot. There will be a limited number of 10-gallon citrus trees available, tentatively including Minneola Tangelo, Navel Orange, Ruby Red Grapefruit, and Key Lime varieties.

Residents may receive one tree per household, and must bring proof of residency (a valid driver’s license, a voter registration card, or a recent utility bill) in order to receive a tree. Trees will be limited, and distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
