The new Bealls is the first to open in the mall, which is being remade.

SEMINOLE – The Bealls department store in Seminole Mall re-opened Friday (April 1) in new digs.

The store had been one of the last to close before the mall was razed to make way for a new, improved shopping mecca that will be called the Seminole City Center. The Beall’s had long been the most popular of the few stores that were left as the mall turned into a ghost town.

“Love the store,” Seminole Mayor Leslie Waters said. The re-opening, she said, was a “much anticipated event.”

Waters said shoppers have a lot to look forward to in upcoming months as construction is complete. Among those are an Earth Fare, a grocery specializing in healthy and organic foods. It will be the first in the Tampa Bay area. Also on tap for the revamped mall: Five Below, Hair Cuttery, Hand and Stone Massage, Jersey Mike’s, HomeGoods, LA Fitness, Lee Spa Nails, Mattress Firm, Pei Wei, Petco, Pollo Tropical, Rack Room Shoes, Sports Authority and Ulta. Stein Mart will also return to the mall, 11201 Park Blvd.

The renovation of the mall was a long sought goal for Seminole. Historically, it served as the city’s center until recent years when most stores moved out leaving a ghost town of a structure.
