A driver failed to stop for a traffic signal, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A 1-year-old baby died Saturday (April 9) from injuries he received in a traffic crash, Florida Highway Patrol troopers said.

Drew Lawton, 1, of Gibsonton died at Tampa General Hospital where he was taken after the collision, the FHP said. Nicole Tanner, 34, and Isabelle Tanner, 14, both of Gibsonton, who were in the car with the infant, were also taken to Tampa General with critical injuries.

The three occupants of the other car were also taken to Tampa General with minor injuries. They were Tara Edwards, 41, the driver; Addison Putman, 9; and Kennedy Putman, 11; all of Brandon.

Troopers said the collision happened about 8:57 p.m. at U.s. 301 and Bloomingdale Avenue. Edwards was driving a 2010 Infiniti QX56 south on U.S. 301 just north of the Bloomingdale intersection. Troopers said the Infiniti “failed to stop for a steady red left turn arrow and violated the right of way” of the 1999 Ford Ranger that Tanner was driving north on U.S. 301.

Troopers said charges are pending.
