U.S. Rep. Charlie Crist calls for bipartisan approach to health-care reform.

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Rep. Charlie Crist, D-St. Petersburg, has called on the Senate to abandon a Republican proposal to abandon a bill that would repeal the Affordable Care Act.

The proposal would eliminate health care for the poor and disabled, and raise costs for the elderly, he said.

Crist made his statement Monday (June 26) after the Congressional Budget Office released a report finding that the Senate Republicans’ healthcare repeal bill would result in 22 million Americans losing coverage, leaving 15 million more Americans uninsured in the next year alone. The bill would cut $772 billion from Medicaid, which provides care to 70 million low-income Americans.

“The CBO score has confirmed that the Senate bill is just as bad as the House version – the one President [Donald] Trump described as ‘mean.’ Simply put, this bill will make health insurance more expensive, strip care from the poor and disabled, raise costs on seniors, and result in 22 million more uninsured Americans,” Crist said. “I hope my colleagues abandon this rushed, misguided, and partisan approach, instead choosing to work together to drive down costs and improve health care for all Americans.”

Crist represents the 13th Congressional District, which includes mid- and south Pinellas.
