Seminole is booming!

You only have to look around to see all of the positive residential and commercial development that is occurring throughout our community!

The city’s 2017 budget is $16,338,488, and our millage rate has not increased in 10 years.  Approximately 135 employees work for the city of Seminole, and provide services through City Administration, Public Works, Library, Recreation, Fire-Rescue, Human Resources, and Community Development.

The City Council continues to focus on fiscally responsible spending while providing for infrastructure improvements, a vibrant schedule of events and programs, and public safety.  The Fire Pension Funding is more than stable at a 96.9 percent funding level.  Our law enforcement is provided by the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, under contract with the city, and is responsible for assuring the safety and security in our neighborhoods, parks, shops, and streets.

Over the past two years the city of Seminole has experienced an unprecedented development and redevelopment throughout the community. The result of this development activity will not only provide our Citizens with quality commercial and residential opportunities it will also diversify our tax base by adding over $60 million of taxable value to our community.

However, Seminole is much more than bricks and mortar!

There is a hard-working and passionate network of generous hearts and souls that contribute to the quality of life in our city in many different ways.  Our schools, churches, civic clubs, Seminole Chamber of Commerce, Seminole Historical Society, Friends of the Seminole Library, Seminole Interfaith Food Pantry, all significantly impact and address niches of needs and interests in our community.

Our Red-White-Blue initiative continues as was shown last November with the Kiwanis’ Second Annual Field of Honor flag display in front of City Hall, a citywide call for canned goods continues, a two-month tube sock rrive gathered 1,000 pairs for our troops, and efforts to support the Salvation Army who stands ready to assist our citizens when the need arises. Our council’s use of proclamations to recognize Citizen Hometown Patriots, and Lifetime Legacy achievements, and other acknowledgements is a demonstration of our thanks to long-time residents who have impacted our city in many different ways.

Thank you to my dedicated council colleagues, the committed city employees and our terrific citizens for their desire to continue to work with enthusiasm and energy and continue to make Seminole a great place to live, work and play.
