St. Pete Sets Public Hearing on Proposed Replacement of 40th Avenue Bridge

thAvenueBridge|StPetersburg|NeighborhoodNews

The project is projected to cost about $11.3 million.

ST. PETERSBURG – The city of St. Petersburg will be holding a public hearing to discuss the 40th Avenue NE bridge project.

The meeting is scheduled to begin with an open house at 6 p.m. and a formal presentation that begins at 7 p.m. Tuesday (Sept. 10) at the North East Park Baptist Church, 3737 1st Street NE in St. Petersburg.

Residents will have a chance to review project displays and speak one-on-one with project team members about the proposed project improvements. The public will be able to comment on the location, conceptual design and social, economic and environmental effects of the proposed improvements.

This hearing is being held as part of a current project development and environment study that is being conducted to address structural deficiencies of the existing 40th Avenue NE Bridge over Placido Bayou. The current bridge structure was constructed in 1961 and widened in 1990. It is considered structurally deficient by the Florida Department of Transportation and therefore is scheduled for replacement.

This project will replace the existing 40th Avenue NE Bridge. The project limits extend from 12th Street NE to west of 13th Way NE, a distance of 0.15 miles. The new bridge will accommodate two lanes of traffic, bicycle lanes and sidewalks.

The total cost is estimated at about $11.3 million.

Draft study documents and other information depicting the proposed improvements are available for review at 40thavenuebridge.com  and at these locations through Sept. 20. Comments postmarked on or before Sept. 20 will become a part of the public hearing record.
