St. Pete landed in the top 50 nationwide. It was No. 1 when compared with the other six Florida cities that WalletHub rated.

ST. PETERSBURG – This city is one of the top 50 best run cities in the nation, according to an analysis by WalletHub.

And, when it comes to Florida cities, St. Petersburg topped the list.

“We have worked hard to stabilize and strengthen our finances and improve the health, well-being, and safety of our citizens,” St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman said. “I am particularly glad to see we ranked so high with respect to our economy, a validation of the hard work of our economic development team and our Grow Smarter Strategy.”

WalletHub, based in Washington, DC, is a website that offers free credit scores, full credit reports and financial advice. In order to determine the best- and worst-run cities in America, WalletHub compared 150 of the most populated cities across six key categories: financial stability, education, health, safety, economy, and infrastructure and pollution. WalletHub looked at 35 factors within those categories in making its ranking. Among those factors: high school graduation rate, crime rates, life expectancy, job growth, income growth, and infrastructure.

When factored together, WalletHub ranked St. Petersburg 42nd on the list of 150 cities. Other Florida cities included in the rankings were Tallahassee (ranked 82), Hialeah (83), Jacksonville (92), Miami (93), Tampa (98), and Ft. Lauderdale (110).
