The city has come up with a plan for the area if the Rays remain in St. Pete. Now officials are working on a plan in case the Rays leave and officials are looking for the community’s help.

ST. PETERSBURG – Although the Tampa Bay Rays haven’t decided if they’re staying or leaving, St. Petersburg officials are moving ahead on planning the future of the 85-acre Tropicana Field site.

They’re hedging their bets by developing two conceptual plans – one with a baseball stadium in case the Rays stay; another without a stadium in case the Rays leave.

The first scenario – with stadium – is done. And now they’ve started work on a design without a stadium. That will build on the work done in developing Scenario 1 and will include five stakeholder workshops, one public meeting, one committee of the whole meeting with the City Council, and community outreach from city staff to neighborhood associations and other organizations when requested.

The first part of that outreach will begin with an Aug. 6 community meeting. Participants can expect to see concepts for the site and have an opportunity to offer comment on those ideas before they are further developed and finalized, should the Rays leave the Tropicana site.The event is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 6 at 200 Sixth Ave. S in St. Pete.
