In Pinellas: Sign Up Now for Free Temporary Roof Repairs

Pinellas Irma | Operation Blue Roof | Hurricane Irma

There are only a couple of days left for Pinellas residents to get free temporary repairs for roofs damaged by Hurricane Irma.

PINELLAS COUNTY – Residents with damaged roofs from Hurricane Irma only have a couple more days to get a temporary repair done for free through the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Operation Blue Roof.

The program provides homeowners in disaster areas with a professionally installed temporary roof repair to make the home livable until permanent repairs can be made.

Registration is simple. Residents or designees must go to the Blue Roof center in person. Staff will ask several questions and then schedule assessments. If the home is eligible, a contractor will make the repair. This process is often completed within a week.

In Pinellas County, the center is located at Indian Rocks Baptist Church, Suite A, 12629 Ulmerton Road, Largo. It is open 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.

Residents are encouraged to register for the free repair this weekend. Because the demand for the repairs has been declining, the center is expected to close within a few days.

For those without their own transportation, PSTA serves this location directly by Route 59, which runs every 15 minutes from approximately 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.

That route intersects four major north-south routes:

·          The Route 18, which runs along Atl. 19, from about 5:30 a.m. – 11 p.m.
·          The Route 19, which runs along U.S. 19 from about 5:30 a.m. – 11 p.m.
·          The Route 52, which runs along 49th Street from about 5:30 a.m. – 11:30 p.m.
·          The Route 4, which runs along Fourth Street from approximately 5:30 a.m. – 11 p.m.

Additional connecting routes can be found on the PSTA System Map at psta.net.

Information on fares can be found at psta.net or residents can call the PSTA Infoline at (727) 540-1900 to plan a trip with a Customer Service Representative during these hours:

Monday – Friday: 6 a.m. – 8 p.m.
