Penny for Pinellas Meeting Set in Largo

Pennies | Money | Sales Tax

The meeting will give residents a chance to offer comments and ideas about ways to spend the Penny for Pinellas if it is renewed in November.

LARGO – Residents are invited to give their input on the most important areas to invest future funds from the Penny for Pinellas 1-percent sales tax at an open house meeting scheduled for Wednesday (March 29) in Largo.

The meeting will run from 5:30 p.m.-8 p.m. at Pinellas County Extension, 12520 Ulmerton Road, and will include informational displays and a survey. Pinellas County staff members will also be available to talk to citizens, answer questions and receive input.

Pinellas voters will decide Nov. 7 on a 10-year renewal of the Penny for Pinellas 1-percent sales tax. Before the referendum vote, the County Commission is seeking resident comment on the most important areas to invest future funds throughout the community.

The Largo meeting follows previous open houses held in Palm Harbor and Gulfport.

Citizens are also invited to give their input on Pinellas County’s future Penny projects using an online survey available at pinellascounty.org.

Since it was initially approved by voters, officials say the Penny has helped build a better Pinellas by supporting projects aimed at areas that matter most to residents, including: improved roads, bridges and trails, water quality and flood prevention, ensuring a safe, secure community, and preserving parks and the environment. The Penny is shared between Pinellas County and the 24 cities to fund long-term, capital projects.
