Pasco Utilities to Stop Taking In-Person Visa Payments

Customers will still be able to make Visa payments online and by phone.

PASCO COUNTY –  Beginning June 1, Pasco County Utilities customers will no longer be able to use Visa® to pay utility bills in-person at any of its three customer service locations in New Port Richey, Land ‘O Lakes and Dade City.

In-person payments can be made using MasterCard, Discover, American Express, cash, checks and electronic funds transfer. Customers will still be able to make Visa payments online and by phone.

To enhance security and protection of customer information, PCU recently switched to a third-party provider to process utility payments.

“Providing payment services and options that surpass current security standards will always remain a top priority,” said Pasco County Utilities Customer Service Administrator Sandra Anderson.  “Our customers’ security must come first.”

Visa payment policies prevent third-party providers from collecting a convenience fee when payments are made in-person, resulting in PCU’s no longer being able to accept Visa credit and debit cards at customer service locations. However, the switch to a third-party provider does allow customers to pay with their credit card over the phone – a service that was not available before the partnership.

Pasco County Utilities partnered with third-party payment processor Paymentus Corporation Oct. 1. All payment processing fees go directly to Paymentus Corporation. Pasco County does not collect any portion of the convenience fee.
