KENNETH CITY – Town officials broke ground Monday (May 6) on a new public works building.

The building, 4600 58th St. N, is part of the town’s public services annex. It is adjacent to the recently rejuvenated, James Ernst Park. The original sheet metal, warehouse-style building was constructed in the late 1950’s, shortly after the town was founded in 1957.

The old building had provided workspace and storage for Kenneth City’s Public Works Department, but had become too small and outdated. Kenneth City officials said they also had safety concerns because of the age ot the metal building, which lacked climate control and was not ADA compliant.

The new building, on the same site as the old, will be more aesthetically pleasing in addition to providing a functional upgrade for the public works department. It will include a large covered area for excess outdoor vehicle storage and a mezzanine for additional storage of the town’s holiday decorations and other equipment. The building has been designed to match the colors of the other two buildings in Kenneth City’s public services annex – the Kenneth City Police Department/Community Hall and fire department.

Construction on the new building is scheduled to be complete by late this year. Building.
