The city of Seminole’s Fire Rescue department is sending out daily updates to help residents recover from Hurricane Irma.

SEMINOLE – This city’s fire department is sending out a daily update to help residents recover in the aftermath of Hurricane Irma.

Today’s (Sept. 14) update includes information on applying for federal assistance, safety tips and availability of items such as ice:

IRMA recovery information line– (727) 391-0204

IRMA related Debris– Please place all debris and waste on your curbside for pick up. Regular trash pickup is in place; IRMA Debris will be picked up starting next week.

Duke Energy – is diligently working to restore power to our area. Go to duke-energy.com/outages for additional information. Thank a lineman as they work around the clock to help us.

Electrical Generators – please operate them outdoors away from structures to prevent carbon monoxide accidents from occurring.

Downed Electric Wires – Stay clear because it is difficult to determine if a wire is live. A live wire can be lethal.

Cutting tools – use caution when clearing debris.

Roads and bridges – All bridges across the county have been inspected for safety and reopened. Public works crews have covered most of Pinellas County’s road network to clear debris and conduct safety assessments.

County water and sewer – Power outages have affected Pinellas County Utilities sewer pump stations. Crews continue to work to keep pump stations functioning on generator power or tanker support while waiting for power service to be fully restored. Utility customers are reminded to restrict putting water down the drain. Please do not run a load of laundry, run your dishwasher or flush toilets when possible. The Pinellas County Utilities potable water system is safe and there is no need to boil water.

Intersections – Some intersection signals throughout the county remain without power. All residents are reminded to treat all intersections without power as full 4-way stops.

Shelters – A small number of evacuated residents remains in emergency shelters. The County keeps working with several agency partners to provide continued support for residents with special needs who are dependent on electrical devices.

Pets – Pinellas County Animal Services department is following up with owners of pets who were transported to the Animal Shelter ahead of the storm, to make reunification arrangements.

Consumer reminders – Citizens who experienced any damage to their property as a result of Hurricane Irma can apply for federal assistance through FEMA by going to DisasterAssistance.gov. To apply by phone, call the number 1-800-621-3362 (TTY 1-800-462-7585 for speech- or hearing-impaired). Those considering hiring contractors to repair damages are advised to always verify that the contractor is licensed. For additional information on hiring contractors, go to pcclb.com. Remember; do not pay for work until it is fully completed to your satisfaction. For additional consumer protections available to you, go to pinellascounty.org.

Pool safety – Residents who have swimming pools and their fences or screen enclosures have been damaged from IRMA. Please monitor and supervise the area until the security of the pool can be repaired. Curious children can be in danger of drowning
