HERNANDO COUNTY – Jeff Rogers has been chosen as Hernando County’s new deputy county administrator.

Rogers, a Hernando County resident, has a master’s in civil engineering and a bachelor’s in environmental engineering both from the University of Miami.

He has spent the past seven years working for Citrus County government, most recently as the assistant county administrator/public works director. In this role, he served as acting county administrator during Hurricane Hermine, provided leadership to multiple departments and divisions, delivered results for projects and programs and developed efficiencies for overall operations.

Rogers also served as interim county administrator during a transition to new county commissioners and senior management. During this time, he completed the annual budget process, directed operations of all county departments and completed the acquisition of a $3.6 million building and a $6 million emergency communications system.

“I am thankful for my time working for Citrus County. I have enjoyed working with the excellent staff there and I am blessed to have had a job that I love,” Rogers said. “I am extremely excited about the opportunity to now serve the Hernando County community where my family and I live.”

Rogers’ aptitude for identifying organizational weaknesses, deploying effective solutions, increasing employee efficiency and embodying an organizational vision has guided his career. He is also a U.S. Navy veteran and graduate from Nuclear Power A School in South Carolina. He has been recognized with multiple awards including two Navy Achievement Medals.

“Jeff has the experience and skills necessary to serve in this position,” County Administrator Leonard Sossamon said. “I look forward to working with him to continue making good things happen in Hernando County.”

Three internal and 14 external applications were received for the position. After careful and deliberate review of the applications, administration determined that three internal and one external individual met the criteria to proceed to the interview process. Face-to-face interviews were conducted with all four applicants. This process led to the selection of Rogers as the most qualified candidate.

Rogers’ first day will be Sept. 25. His pay will be $126,473.53.
