Hernando Extends State of Emergency, Opens Disaster Help Center

FEMA | St Petersburg | Hurricane Irma

The Hernando County Disaster Assistance Center will help residents register with FEMA.

HERNANDO COUNTY – This county’s local state of emergency was extended Monday (Sept. 25) for seven days.

This was the second extension since the original declaration was made Sept. 5. The decision was made by the executive policy group, comprised of county government leaders, because of the ongoing flooding that is impacting residents living near the Withlacoochee River and in other low-lying areas of Hernando County.

The extension will also ensure that the Emergency Operations Center continues to have flexibility in operations and purchasing to meet the community’s needs.

Hernando officials have also opened a county disaster assistance center from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. starting today (Sept. 26). It will remain open daily through Friday (Sept. 29). The center will be staffed by Federal Emergency Management Agency personnel. It will be at the Mining Association Enrichment Center, 800 John Gary Grubbs Blvd. in Brooksville. No appointment is needed.

This site will initially provide information and FEMA registration assistance to residents. Other partners and services will be added as resources become available.

Additional dates will be announced if they are needed.
