Cathie Perkins | Pinellas County Emergency Management Director | Government

Cathie Perkins brings more than two decades of emergency response experience to the job.

PINELLAS COUNTY – Pinellas County has named Cathie Perkins as new director of Emergency Management.

She began her new duties Monday (Oct. 29). She has brought 24 years of experience in emergency management, disaster and emergency response.

Perkins fills a permanent position that had been held on a temporary basis since the spring by Interim Director David Halstead.

Perkins comes to Pinellas County after a long career in Miami-Dade County, most recently heading up the Planning Bureau, which was instrumental in responding to Hurricane Irma in 2017. She has served in many emergency management capacities, including work as a consultant for eight years as program director for Emergency Management and Homeland Security, providing planning and training to numerous agencies across Florida.

“I look forward to working with all of our city and agency partners to continue this community’s great work of keeping Pinellas County’s citizens safe through any emergency,” Perkins said.

Perkins’ experience led her to develop a course on vulnerability analysis and hazard mitigation at Florida International University, where she has served as an adjunct professor at the Academy for International and Public Affairs. She is a certified Florida Professional Emergency Manager through the Florida Emergency Preparedness Association.

Pinellas County Emergency Management keeps citizens safe during large-scale emergencies by coordinating countywide disaster planning and response, including public notifications, sheltering and training partner agencies.
