The former Redington Shores mayor will temporarily fill the District 6 seat left vacant by the death of John Morroni.

PINELLAS COUNTY – Newly appointed Pinellas County Commissioner Jay J. Beyrouti was officially sworn in Tuesday (July 17).

“It’s such an honor to be appointed to the County Commission,” Beyrouti said. “I’m looking forward to being a part of the leadership of this great county. I think it’s the best county in the nation and it will be a privilege to serve in this role.”

Beyrouti took his ceremonial oath of office four days after Gov. Rick Scott appointed him to fill the District 6 vacancy opened by the passing of Commissioner John Morroni in May. Beyrouti will serve in the role until the term expires in November. After that, it will be filled by the winner of the Nov. 6 general election.

“We welcome Jay to the Commission and are excited to have him represent District 6,” Commission Chair Ken Welch said. “His good work in this county speaks for him. We look forward to the work ahead as a unified Board.”

Beyrouti, of Redington Shores, is a small-business owner with a degree in accounting and international business. He served as Redington Shores Mayor from 1994 to 2006.
