It’s not too late to join the St. Pete Autumn Solar Co-Op. The group is holding an information session tonight.

ST. PETERSBURG – Homeowners who’ve thought of going solar still have a chance to join Pinellas’ latest solar co-op.

The St. Pete Autumn Solar Co-op has scheduled an information session from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. tonight (Oct. 16) at the Gladden Park Recreation Center, 3901 30th Ave. N in St. Petersburg. Click here to RSVP.

The co-op has chosen Solar Source to install solar panels for the group. The installer is developing personalized proposals for each participant. This co-op is open to everyone in Pinellas County. (See related story.)

The idea is to bring homeowners together into a group, or co-op. Organizers provide unbiased, installer-neutral support to co-op participants through each stage of the process of going solar. The organizers’ team makes sure participants understand how solar works, how it can be financed, and how it can be installed on the participant’s home.

Co-ops take advantage of the group’s bulk-purchasing power to get discounted pricing and a quality installation. Volunteer co-op participants choose an installer on behalf of the entire group through an open and competitive bidding process. The selected installer provides co-op participants a personalized proposal for their consideration.

The co-ops are sponsored by the city of St. Petersburg, the League of Women Voters of the St. Petersburg Area,  and Solar United Ne ighbors of Florida, together with the University of South Florida St. Petersburg, Pinellas County Urban League, Florida Suncoast Sierra Club, Solar and Energy Loan Fund (SELF), Southern Alliance for Clean Energy, St. Pete Eco-Village, Chart 411, and Earth Day St. Petersburg.
