South Pinellas Solar Co-Op Chooses Installation Company

Solar Panels | Solar Energy | Solar Power

Homeowners have until April 30 to join the co-op. This co-op is open to Pinellas County residents who live south of Clearwater and State Road 60.

PINELLAS COUNTY – The St. Pete Winter Solar Co-op has chosen Solar Tech Elec to install solar panels for the 110-participant group.

Co-op participants selected Solar Tech Elec through a competitive bidding process over eight other firms because of their equipment offerings, warranties, price, locality, and experience.

“The selection committee and its process were a well facilitated and collaborative effort, with everyone there participating,” said Davis Brooks, a selection committee participant. “We went through the bid responses methodically, paid close attention to the offered features by order of selection priority, and stayed present to serving the needs of the entire co-op membership.”

There is still time to join the St. Pete Winter Solar Co-op. The next information session is 6 p.m. Wednesday (March 21) at the West St. Petersburg Library, 6700 Eighth Ave. N. Community members will learn about solar and the co-op process. The meeting is open to the public.

The co-op was formed under a partnership between Solar United Neighbors and the League of Women Voters of St. Petersburg Area. (See related story.) The partnership expands access to solar by educating Florida residents about the benefits of distributed solar energy, helping them organize group solar installations, and strengthening Florida’s solar policies and its community of solar supporters.

“Residents of the Sunshine State are realizing that solar power is not only environmentally friendly, but a smart financial decision for their family,” Ross Dyson of Solar Tech Elec said.

The co-op is open to new participants until April 30. Pinellas County residents living south of Clearwater and State Road 60 who are interested in joining the co-op can sign up at the co-op web page.

The co-op is free to join and joining the co-op is not a commitment to purchase panels. Solar Tech Elec LLC will provide each co-op participant with an individualized proposal based on the group rate. By going solar as a group and choosing a single installer, participants can save off the cost of going solar and have the support of fellow group participants and solar experts at Solar United Neighbors.
