Largo officials want to partner with local businesses to begin the installation of electric vehicle charging stations across the city.

LARGO – In a historic step the city of Largo has welcomed its first all-electric vehicle to the city fleet.

This announcement comes as the city begins work on LEAP- the Largo environmental action plan that aims to renew the natural environment, ensuring a sustainable future for generations.

The new vehicle, a 100-percent-electric Nissan Leaf, will be used by city staff to help educate and engage residents on the importance of sustainability issues and how everyone can make contributions that make lasting impacts on the community.

“I am proud to add clean-fueled vehicles to our fleet, signaling the importance of sustainability and strategic planning in our organization,” Largo City Manager Henry Schubert said. “This is another step forward in ensuring the long term sustainability of our City through reducing our environmental impact and improving our financial future.”

Largo officials said they hope to buy more zero-emission vehicles in the future and are looking to partner with local businesses to begin the installation of electric vehicle charging stations across the city.
