Largo is the fourth city in Florida to commit to 100 percent renewable energy.

LARGO – In support of Largo’s strategic focus on sustainability, Largo City Commission voted to approve an organizational commitment to achieve 100 percent renewable, zero-emission energy by 2035.

Largo will explore ways to reduce energy consumption and increase efficiencies through technology, building upgrades and retrofits. Largo’s commitment also includes supporting a communitywide transition to 100 percent renewable energy through stakeholder engagement and encouraging benefits for the most vulnerable in our community.

The Suncoast Sierra Club’s Ready for 100 Campaign said Largo is the 75th city in the nation and fourth in Florida to commit to an environmentally and fiscally sustainable energy future.

“I am proud to support our vision of being the community of choice in Tampa Bay through a transition to 100 percent renewable energy. This will lower electricity costs and provide our residents, businesses and visitors with less pollution and more economic and job opportunities,” the city’s Sustainability Coordinator, Laura Thomas, said. “This commitment will assist us in improving local air and water quality and protect public health, particularly for the most vulnerable across our community.”
