The Driving on Sunshine electric vehicle roadshow purrs its way into St. Petersburg on Monday. It will give folks a chance to drive a Tesla or Nissan Leaf to experience what it’s like to drive an electric vehicle.

ST. PETERSBURG – If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like the drive an electric car, now’s your time to find out.

Driving on Sunshine is an electric vehicle roadshow hosted by Electrify the South, a campaign of the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy to empower individuals and communities to transition to clean, electric transportation throughout the Southeast.

The roadshow promotes the ease and benefits of electric vehicle (EV) transportation through personal, hands-on driving experiences. The campaign seeks to bridge the gap between everyday transportation needs and the social good of driving electric. The roadshow officially launched earlier this month and is touring the Sunshine State, offering free electric vehicle ride and drive events to educate Floridians about the benefits of electric vehicles for drivers, the environment and public health.

Organizers have several goals:

  • Promote the benefits of electric vehicles by providing firsthand driving experiences: They say, “The best way to see how fun, easy and practical an electric vehicle can be is to drive one for yourself. Not only are EVs key to reducing carbon emissions that cause climate change, they also protect public health, reduce the need for offshore drilling, and save drivers money! EVs are rapidly becoming more affordable, more practical, and more popular, but unfortunately there are still many misconceptions about them. That’s why the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy will be touring the Sunshine State to educate the public about EVs through Driving on Sunshine.”
  • Pave the way for a clean transportation and clean energy future: “Clean energy can drive our future. Charging an electric vehicle is already much better for our environment than driving a traditional gas-powered vehicle — reducing pollution and the need for gasoline and offshore drilling. However, we envision a future of transportation fueled by clean, renewable energy from the sun. This is the best possible solution for the environment and public health, eliminating the need for any form of dirty fossil fuels.”
  • Have fun:”The Driving on Sunshine electric vehicle roadshow will bring a variety of electric vehicles to Floridians across the state through a series of ride and drive events. Attendees will have the opportunity to test drive various vehicles, like a Nissan LEAF hatchback, a Tesla Model 3 sedan and a Tesla Model X crossover. Who doesn’t love going for test drives?”

Driving electric is a clean transportation solution that saves money, protects public health, and preserves our planet.”

The roadshow is coming to St. Petersburg from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.  Monday (July 29) at the Palladium, 253 Fifth Ave. N.

Hear from local elected officials, including U.S. Rep. Charlie Crist, St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman, Largo Mayor Woody Brown, and Pinellas County Commissioner Janet Long about electric vehicle policy at the federal, state and local level and the important role Florida plays in the transition to clean transportation.

After their statements, take a test drive in a Tesla or a Nissan LEAF and experience what it’s like to drive electric.
