U.S. Rep. Charlie Crist spoke in defense of science.

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Rep. Charlie Crist, D-St. Petersburg, spoke up Wednesday (March 29) today in defense of science and against attacks on climate policy.

Crist voted against H.R. 1430, which would undermine the Environmental Protection Agency’s mission to protect the environment and public health by limiting its use of scientific data. Crist also voiced his opposition to the executive order issued Tuesday (March 28) by the Trump Administration rolling back key environmental protections. That move, he said, cedes American leadership in reducing greenhouse gas emissions that cause global warming, and hinders our efforts to achieve national energy security.

“We must defend science and stop denying climate change – too much at stake to stick our heads in the sand. I know this firsthand in my home of Pinellas County, literally a peninsula on a peninsula, where we live with the threat of rising sea levels,” Crist said. “Undermining the EPA and smart climate policy puts our coastal communities at risk.”

Crist represents Florida’s 13th Congressional District, which covers south and mid-Pinellas County.
