Clearwater plans to build a water purification plant.

CLEARWATER – After years of research and third-party testing, the city of Clearwater is moving closer to construction of an advanced water purification plant to be constructed at the Northeast Water Reclamation Facility off of State Route 580 and McMullen Booth Road.

Clearwater residents are invited to learn more about this innovative project at the third public information open house from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday (May 2) at the Clearwater East Library, 2251 Drew St. City staff, project scientists and the Southwest Florida Water Management District will provide an overview of the purification process that produces water at better-than-drinking-water standards and protects the environment by recharging the aquifer.

When complete, the plant will have the capacity to produce up to 3 million gallons of purified recycled water every day.
