Alarm | Environment | Time

The concept behind Saturday’s rally is to awaken people to the connection between the climate, jobs and justice.

ST. PETERSBURG – A rally is planned Saturday (Sept. 8) to help wake people up to the climate crisis and its effect on jobs, justice and every day life.

The “Rise Up Ringing! Peoples March for Climate Jobs Justice St Pete” is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Williams Park, 330 Second Ave. N in St. Petersburg.

The event is part of a national movement by the the Peoples Climate Movement and activist partners from across the U.S. and around the world. The goal is to bring together 10s of thousands of people into the streets to show leaders a grass-roots demand for “real action on climate change.”

According to the event’s website:

“Like history’s Paul Revere, we awaken our neighbors and press our leaders to action. We are woke to the reality our situation and our need to change the dream of fossil fuel economy, financial inequity and stinging injustices. We rise to ring in a new dream: sustainability in climate, wages, health, housing, energy, social justice, and beauty for all – no exceptions!

“Meditation, Rally, Demonstration, Speakers, Music, Poets, Connecting – This day is an exercise in support, action, connection and readiness. We hope that you will find like minded people and organizations to partner with to support the important work to be done for Jobs & Justice, carrying this movement into November and beyond.

“Shoulder to shoulder, connecting hearts, indivisable, we rise; reestablishing values of liberty and justice for all; reclaiming the future; showing our elected leaders the way, demanding they act for us, for the wellbeing of the future of our and our children’s home – the Planet.”
