The list ranks “Golden Age” universities, those founded between 1945 -1966.

TAMPA – The University of South Florida is the seventh best public university in America and 34^th best university in the world, according to new rankings released last week comparing universities founded between 1945 -1966.

The “Golden Age Universities” rankings unveiled by the Times Higher Education, a global higher education news publication, offer a unique analysis of USF and like-aged institutions. Traditionally rankings show how USF, founded in 1956, compares with all U.S. and international universities, most of which were established more than 100 years earlier. 

USF is the only university in Florida and the southeastern United States to be ranked among 201 global universities.

This recognition reflects USF’s continued progress toward becoming a Preeminent University in Florida and USF’s stated goal of positioning itself for eligibility by the Association of American Universities. USF is joined in THE’s top ten by AAU member institutions including the University of California San Diego, UC Irvine, Stonybrook and Brandeis.

“USF is very proud of this well-earned achievement. While we celebrate this latest accomplishment our top priority remains our commitment to our strategic goals of student success, research and innovation, and global engagement,” USF System President Judy Genshaft said.

This designation by THE follows recent top 50 placements in other prominent university rankings such as Washington Monthly, THE World University Rankings, Top American Research Universities and the Academic Ranking of World Universities.
