TAMPA – Several of the University of South Florida’s graduate programs rank as some of the best in the nation, according to the 2018 Best Graduate Schools rankings released today by U.S. News and World Report.

USF’s Industrial and Organizational Psychology graduate program ranks No. 2 in the nation among all public and private universities, up from No. 4 last year.

USF graduate programs that rank in USNWR’s top 50 public universities nationally include: library and information studies (No. 25), best medical schools: research (No. 27), masters of nursing (No. 27), engineering – environmental and environmental health (No. 29), engineering – industrial/manufacturing (No. 34), best medical schools: primary care (No. 47), doctor of nursing practice (No. 48) and computer engineering (No. 48).

While USNWR does not provide a new ranking for all graduate programs each year, several other previously ranked USF programs maintain a top 50 positon among all public universities.  Those include public health (No. 8), audiology (No. 13), rehabilitation counseling (No. 22), clinical psychology (No. 36), speech-language pathology (No. 42), health care management (No. 42), physical therapy (No. 47) and earth sciences (No. 47).

Among all public and private universities, USF ranks No. 56 for best medical schools: research, continuing an impressive climb from No. 63 last year and No. 80 in 2014.

“The University of South Florida is proud to see our graduate programs recognized among the best in the nation,” USF Provost and Executive Vice President Ralph Wilcox said. “Our tremendous trajectory of success is the result of a university-wide commitment to student success and a testament to the time, energy, and talent of our hardworking faculty, staff, and students.”

The USNWR top graduate school rankings follow recent national recognition of USF’s position as No. 1 in Florida and No. 6 in the nation for black student success (the Education Trust), and as the nation’s top producer of Fulbright Scholars (U.S. Department of State and Institute of International Education).

In determining the rankings, USNWR examines a variety of factors, including acceptance rates, test scores on GRE, GMAT, LSAT, and MCAT, as well as student-faculty ratios, and employment rates upon graduation. They also consider a school’s course offerings, department culture, total cost to obtain the graduate degree, any advising and mentoring opportunities for students, as well as the school’s location and campus life.

More information on graduate programs and the extensive list of degrees offered at USF is available through the USF Office of Graduate Studies.
