The Silver Medal of Good Citizenship recognizes Michael Grego’s innovative leadership, effective program development, and record of outstanding achievement as Pinellas schools superintendent.

ST. PETERSBURG – The St. Petersburg Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution awarded the distinguished SAR Silver Medal of Good Citizenship to Michael A. Grego, superintendent of the Pinellas County School System.

The engraved silver medal and NSSAR award certificate were presented by Charles R. Butler, chair of the Chapter’s board of governors, to Grego on Saturday (Feb. 16) at the St. Petersburg Yacht Club during Presidents’ Month Commemoration Ceremonies.

The Silver Medal of Good Citizenship recognizes Grego’s innovative leadership, effective program development, and record of outstanding achievement as Superintendent of the Pinellas County School system since his appointment in 2012.

Most recently, the Florida Association of District School Superintendents honored Grego’s accomplishments by designating him Florida’s Superintendent of the Year for 2018.

The Silver Medal of Good Citizenship was created by the National Society in 1939. It is the highest society award that can be presented through a State Society or Chapter and requires the approval of a special committee of Florida State Society.

The SAR Silver Medal of Good Citizenship has only been awarded one other time by the St. Petersburg Chapter. That was in January 2019 to Army Brig. Gen. David MacEwen.
