Pinellas School District Breaks Ground on New Melrose Elementary
The school will include a TV studio and new space for Melroses’s Center for Journalism and Multimedia Studies.
ST. PETERSBURG – Melrose Elementary School staff, School Board Members, district leaders and local dignitaries have broken ground on a new campus for the St. Petersburg school.
Thechool will be built in phases over the next two years and will feature renovated classrooms and facilities for students, as well as space to serve the community.
Details of the new campus include 21st century classrooms with resource rooms that encourage one-on-one instruction and small group collaboration and a new community building with a multipurpose room, art labs, music labs and space for a YMCA care program. There will also be a revamped TV studio and new space for the school’s Center for Journalism and Multimedia Studies, new outdoor facilities for PE and added parking and dropoff areas to accommodate the new school and community activities.
The new school was designed by Williamson Dacar Associates and will be constructed by Creative Contractors. Construction is scheduled to be complete in September 2019.
