Mildred Helms Named an International Baccalaureate School

The distinction means that Mildred Helms Elementary is  part of a global community of schools committed to developing knowledgeable, caring young people who will be ready to negotiate their futures successfully and make contributions resulting in a more harmonious and peaceful world.

LARGO – Mildred Helms Elementary has earned the distinction of being named an International Baccalaureate authorized World IB School for the Primary Years Programme (sic).

The recognition was given by the International Baccalaureate Organizations. The qualification process usually takes two to three years for a primary school to complete. As an IB World School offering the PYP, Mildred Helms is part of a global community of schools committed to developing knowledgeable, caring young people who will be ready to negotiate their futures successfully and make contributions resulting in a more harmonious and peaceful world.

The IB network is committed to the professional development of teachers and creates a community of educators, who collaborate and work towards a dynamic global network of professionals committed to best practices in teaching students and in sharing those practices with each other.

The school. at 561 S Clearwater-Largo Road in Largo, will host the third annual International Showcase from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. May 17. This year’s theme is “A Celebration of Learning.” Mildred Helms’ learners share what impacted them the most this school year. The event will feature an art show, science fair, performance by the Dolphin Magic Chorus, PTA Variety Show and Kindergarten Opera.
