The elementary school, to be built in the Belmont subdivision, will affect attendance zones for nine other elementary schools.

RUSKIN – In August 2020, Hillsborough County Public Schools will open a new elementary school in the fast-growing area of southeastern Hillsborough County.

The school will be located on Gate Dancer Road, west of U.S. 301, in the Belmont subdivision. The community is invited to a meeting from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday (Sept. 17) to review materials and provide input to staff on the proposed boundary changes. The meeting will be held at Shields Middle School, 15732 Beth Shields Way in Ruskin.

The new school, called Elementary School “D” for planning purposes, is designed to provide space for new growth in the area. The school will offer relief to Doby, Cypress Creek, and Reddick Elementary schools. Additionally, the proposal includes adjustments to Collins, Corr, Summerfield, Summerfield Crossings, Thompson, and Wimauma Elementary schools to improve the geographic location of students to their assigned schools.

The meeting will be an open house format where parents can talk to staff members, provide comments, and review the information throughout the evening. Staff members from Transportation, Choice, and the affected schools will be available to answer questions. There will not be a formal presentation, but instead, attendees will be able to meet in small groups to ask questions and provide comments.

The proposed boundary maps can be viewed on our district’s website at hillsboroughschools.org.

Proposed boundaries are not final until school board approval, which is anticipated to occur this winter.

Families and members of the community can submit questions and comments to boundaries@sdhc.k12.fl.us .
