Workshops on entrepreneurship will be offered at both high schools this year.

ST. PETERSBURG – A seies of workshops will be offered at Gibbs and Lakewood high schools for student entrepreneurs this school year.

The workshops are being offered thanks to a $25,000 AT&T contribution to the Pinellas Education Foundation.The check was presented to the foundation at a ceremony last week.

“At the Olympics right now is Gibbs High’s own Trayvon Bromell. My hope is that Gibbs High is going to be the home of the next Steve Jobs or the next Bill Gates with this entrepreneurship program,” At&T’s Ed Narain said.

The classes will involve intensive experiences in creating a business model, mentoring by business professionals, marketing products and services, and developing business plans. Those plans will be submitted to a panel of expert judges as students compete for tens of thousands of dollars to fully develop their products and services.

“The more we do to prepare our children for life after school, the better off we will be for that investment,” St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman said of the grant’s potential for improving students’ futures.
