ST. PETERSBURG – A woman was set on fire during an argument with her boyfriend Tuesday (July 5) night, according to the St. Petersburg Police Department.

Sheron K. Pasco, 37, was flown to Tampa General Hospital with severe burns. She is listed in critical condition, police said.

Her boyfriend, John Riggins, 37, was also burned. He was treated for his burns. Police said he was in custody late Tuesday and would be questioned.

Police said early, unconfirmed reports indicate that Riggins and Pasco got into an argument a little before 8 p.m. Riggins allegedly took a gas can and poured the contents onto Pasco and set her on fire. Pasco’s aunt put her in a tub to put out the flames. Riggins ran out of the house with his arms on fire. Police said they found Riggins in the vacant house next door. The investigation is continuing.
