Woman Charged with DUI After Crash on Courtney Campbell Causeway
The other driver was critically injured in the crash, the Clearwater police said.
CLEARWATER – A woman faces three criminal charges – including driving under the influence – after this morning’s (Aug. 17) wreck that left a Clearwater man critically injured, according to the Clearwater Police Department.
Gregory Palmer, 52, of Clearwater, was taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg in critical condition.
Lina Marie Paige, 26, of Clearwater, was booked into the Pinellas County Jail after being medically cleared at Clearwater emergency rescue. Paige was charged with one count each of driving under the influence involving serious bodily injury, battery on a law enforcement officer, and driving with a license suspended or revoked.
The crash happened in the westbound lanes of the Courtney Campbell Causeway about 3:15 a.m. Police said Paige was driving a 2010 Mercedez-Benz thst slammed into the rear of a work van that was also traveling west. The impact sent the van veering out of control, where it then slammed into a guardrail, flipped and then came to rest upright.
Westbound lanes of the causeway were closed for more than five hours while police investigated the crash.
