Woman Arrested After Child Jumps from Car

She admitted telling the child to jump from the vehicle, Hillsborough sheriff’s deputies said.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A Dade City woman was arrested after she drove off and left a child who jumped out of her car, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said.

Ashlee Yolanda Crawford, 31, of Dade City, was charged with one count each of Child Neglect and Driving with a License Cancelled, Suspended.

Deputies said that at about 6:30 this morning (Dec. 31), deputies were called to Franklin Road and US 301 N for a call about a suspicious vehicle. A small child jumped from the front passenger seat of a four-door Cadillac that was being driven by a relative. The car drove away leaving the 12-year-old girl behind. It is unclear how Crawford and the child are related.

Upon arrival deputies said they found the child who was treated and released by Hillsborough County Fire Rescue for minor injuries.

Deputies said they found the car about an hour later near 10905 Brigann Yard Way in Thonotosassa. Ashlee Yolanda Crawford, the driver, admitted to telling the child to jump from the Car. It is unclear why she told the child to jump out.

Crawford was taken to the Orient Road Jail and investigators from the Child Protection Investigations Division and took custody of the child.
