Paula Brandt | New Port Richey Police | Arrests

The man who was stabbed is in serious but stable condition, according to New Port Richey police.

NEW PORT RICHEY – A woman is accused of stabbing her live-in boyfriend and spitting in a police officer’s face, the New Port Richey Police Department said.

Paula Ann Brandt, 26, is charged with attempted murder and battery on a law enforcement officer. The man who was stabbed is in serious but stable condition at Bayonet Point Hospital, police said.

Officers said they were called to the Royal Palm Inn, 6523 U.S.19, about 11:52 p.m. Wednesday (May 17) for reports of a stabbing. When police arrived, officers found a man on the ground near the front office. He had a stab wound above the heart. Officers applied pressure to the wound until paramedics arrived.

Officers found Brandt and a witness outside their room. Brandt, they said, had blood on her hands, arms, face and clothing. Officers said they found a bloody knife on the floor of the room behind the door.

Brand refused to answer questions or make a statement. While an officer was interviewing a witness, Brandt, who was handcuffed, spit in the officer’s face.

Police said the man who was stabbed identified Brandt both as his live-in girlfriend and the person who stabbed him. The witness confirmed the accusation, police said.
