Weeki Wachee Man Charged in Construction Site Burglaries

He confessed to committing numerous construction site burglaris, Hernando deputies said.

HERNANDO COUNTY – A Weeki Wachee man has been arrested and charged in connection with burglaries at seven construction sites in Brooksville and Weeki Wachee, according to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office.

William Nichols, 37, of Weeki Wachee, was charged with one count of Petit Theft and seven counts of Burglary.

Deputies went to Nichols’ home Wednesday (Dec. 5) to serve him with a warrant for Petit Theft. While they were there, deputies said they received a tip that Nichols was possibly responsible for several construction site burglaries being investigated by the HCSO.

Detectives said they found several pieces of fresh lumber on the property, which they believed might be related to the recent burglaries.

Nichols was arrested on the warrant and questioned about the construction site burglaries. During questioning, deputies said Nichols confessed to committing numerous construction site burglaries.

Nichols showed detectives several home sites that he burglarized. He told detectives some of the stolen materials were located at his home. Detectives recovered numerous stolen materials from Nichols’ home.

All told, deputies said, Nichols admitted to three construction site burglaries that were being investigated and four additional burglaries that had not been reported.

The construction sites were in Weeki Wachee and Brooksville.
